BADENOCH & STRATHSPEY GROUP NEWS
2009 AGM & the future of the group
At the AGM, members of the current committee stood down & did
not seek re-election, due to continuing dissatisfaction with
Ramblers GB. Morag Kellaway & Elisabeth Longley have taken
over to ascertain over the next three months whether the group
can continue. To do this, volunteers are needed to fill
committee places & to come forward as walk leaders for the next
programme (March 2010 onwards). Please contact Elisabeth
Longley on 01479 851735 if you can help.
RA Scotland office Closure
The RA Scotland office at Milnathort has been given a
temporary reprieve & will exist with part time employees until
the lease runs out in 2010. RA Scotland are still
investigating future options, including independence.
These options will be debated at Scottish council in 2010 before
any motions can be taken forward to the GB General Council later
in the year. The Badenoch & Strathspey group committee
updated the group members at the AGM on 11th November.
Walks and walks leaders
We are always on the look out for new ideas for walks and would
welcome volunteers to lead walks.
Members who find our own programme too limiting are reminded
that they are entitled to walk with any Ramblers Group.
You can find out what is on offer by following the links to the
main Ramblers website on the tabs above (Walk With Us).
Our walks are scheduled so that they do not clash with those of
the Strathspey Mountain Club. If you are interested in
this alternative, visit

Petrol Contribution
We have amended our petrol contribution suggestions due to
the higher cost of petrol & diesel. We now suggest £2
per passenger for trips within the Badenoch & Strathspey area.
For our infrequent trips outside the Strath we suggest £3 per
passenger. This is not a rule, so drivers should not be offended
if someone forgets. On the other hand, drivers should not
confuse passengers by modestly refusing payment. (For insurance
purposes these contributions are donations & not a charge of any
kind.)
Dog Owners and the Access Code
Do you know when your dog should be on a lead? Do you know
what a short lead is? Do you know what is meant by close
control? Find out by reading the excellent "WALKIES"
leaflet published by Scottish Natural Heritage (Phone 01738
4444177) or find it on www.outdooraccess-scotland.com.
