LOCHABER AND LORN RAMBLERS GROUP
We are very fortunate that one of
our members, T Walters, has undertaken the task of producing a
regular newsletter which is very appropriately entitled:
"FOOTSTEPS". This covers a wide range of
topics and we would like to share some of the content with you to
give the 'flavour' of our group.
"How
did the Lochaber and Lorn Group start?"
Although our
area has probably some of the most spectacular walks in the
country there was no official walking group until about six years
ago. Through the initiative of one (now) member (J Watson)
a letter was sent to the Ramblers' Association asking if they
were interested in setting up a group in this area. After a
positive response, an advert was placed in the Oban Times (one of
two provincial papers covering this area) inviting interested
parties to attend a meeting at Duror Village Hall to discuss the
possibility.
To everyone's surprise, about 40 people
turned up to hear the RA representative explain the
requirements. It was decided to appoint a steering group
... and the rest is history. We now have a thriving Group
with around 60 members and with an interesting and varied walks'
programme produced each half year.
Our walks'
programme can be found by clicking the "Walk With Us"
hyperlink at top of this page, so if you are local to this area,
or perhaps planning to holiday here, do please come and join us.
Membership is not necessary for up to 3 walks, but thereafter,
walkers will be expected to join the Ramblers' Association.
